Gavin Christopher Newsom is a popular, talented, and extremely successful American politician and businessman born on October 10, 1967, in San Francisco.

He was the 42nd Mayor of San Francisco before becoming the current governor of the great state of California in January 2019.

A member of the Democratic Party, he has been an active fighter for progressive policy reform in a country that consistently polarizes on ideological grounds.

Gavin Newsom is a famous California governor who has made his mark on the state legislature and as lieutenant governor.

Gavin went to Redwood High School, then to Santa Clara University.

After college, he started the PlumpJack wine store with friend Gordon Getty. PlumpJack grew and eventually managed 23 businesses, including wineries, restaurants, and hotels.

In 1996 Newsom ran for the San Francisco Board of Supervisors because he cared about traffic problems in the city. He was elected three more times, in 1998, 2000, and 2002.

In 2003, at the age of 36, Gavin was elected the 42nd mayor of San Francisco. The city’s youngest mayor in a century, he achieved this despite being eight years younger than any other candidate who had run for office that year. He was re-elected in 2007 with 72% of the vote.

Newsom gained national attention when his idea to issue same-sex marriage licenses became a reality.
